HOW AN ONLINE WEB-BASED GAME WORKS
Web games are usually developed in Flash,
Java, or similar plugin that most people have
pre-installed in their computer. Non-web based
games require you to download a Windows executable
(.exe) and are usually made with c++, directX,
openGL.
Web based games do not require the user to
download and install the game (provided they
have the required plugin). Flash games are
usually smaller, taking into account the average
attention span of your viewers. A well planned
and executed Flash game can generate alot
of attention for your site and gives you a
great marketing tool when planning your next
advertising campaign.
Web based games can be multiplayer (turn based
or real time) and can support up to 2000 simultaneous
users. As with planning any game, a complete
design document will be included. |

MULTIPLAYER GAMES AND MASSIVELY-MULTIPLAYER
GAMES
It seems strange these days to go online to play a single
player game. Multiplayer games are the wave of the present
and the standard of the future. The ability to embed a
multiplayer Flash game (or application) into your webpage
has huge advantages, for example:
- People can play from any computer, anywhere in the world.
- You never have to install the game onto your computer.
- If the game uses HTTP protocol for multiplayer, there
are no worries about company firewalls.
- All of the information is stored on the server, which
decreases the chance of hacking. |

HOW AN ONLINE FLASH GAME CAN BENEFIT YOU
There are two ways to make money from an online web
based game: directly and indirectly.
DIRECTLY: A well made Flash game can be sold on a per-play
basis or one time charge. An online multiplayer game can
incorporate a monthly fee.
INDIRECTLY: A popular Flash game can attract alot of traffic
(hits) to your site which can be used to your benefit
by placing advertisements on your site along with the
game. |
|
THE AVERAGE TIMELINE FOR A WEB BASED ONLINE
GAME
Puzzle, cards, and arcade games are usually the fastest
to produce since they do not require alot of artwork.
The average timeline for a Tetris, Arcanoid, or Asteroids
type game is 3 weeks. A small concentration game can take
only a few days. |

BUILDING AN ONLINE GAMING WEBSITE
Multiplayer poker is vastly popular throughout North
America, making online poker sites more popular as well.
A great way to make money with a poker site, since online
gambling is illegal, is free poker with advertisements
scattered throughout the site. People enjoy playing poker
with real people in real time, which is why online, web-based
poker is in huge demand right now.
Other sites will have a collection of various small, arcade
type online games and have advertisements on each page.
Some people will base their entire website on one large-scale
online game and charge fees for play or in-game upgrades.
These games are usually massively-multiplayer in nature,
making the purchase of upgrades somewhat desirable in
order to be more powerful than your opponents. |
