Creating a new, customized website template |
The first step in constructing a website is to establish the overall look and feel of the site. This requires gathering and organizing all of the information that will be included on the site and designing the initial concept layout. This is otherwise known as a website design scheme, or template, and can be HTML or Flash based.
The concept layout will show where different elements included on the site will be located such as the logo, title, navigation, pictures, content, and background. It must give an overall sense of how all the information will be grouped and organized. A colour scheme to be used throughout the site can also be established. |

The way in which the information is organized is called the site structure, and this can be shown by making a list of the pages (based on how the information is grouped). This list is then linked together to form the site map. The site map serves as a guideline to follow throughout the design process and can be helpful to the designer and programmer to create a user friendly experience with navigation, menus, easy to use features, and online applications. |
